After an engineering degree in computer science from EPITA, Paris and a masters in machine learning and artificial intelligence from the University of  Paris Dauphine, Julien obtained his PhD  in machine learning and autonomous computing from Paris Sud. During this period, he obtained the 2009 ChessBase award for the publication with most impact in the domain of control theory applied to strategic games.

After 2 years as principal lecturers at Univ. Paris 12 in the domain of autonomous network systems, Julien Perez joined what was then the Xerox research labs in the fall of 2013 (Naver Labs Europe since August 2017)as a research scientist in the Machine Learning for Services team. His current research interests are reasoning machines, deep learning, reinforcement learning and autonomous dialog systems.
